The Hedge is here
Here's a narrow snakey Billet Osage just getting started. Not determined how long or weight as of now. Will get a grip block ready to glue on. Just finished one thats a little more narrow than this one here

Re: The Hedge is here
Hallo, when I put Billets together I do it with a little reflex (reverse angle) to improve the performance a little bit.
Sorry for my bad english.
Where do you come from?
Greetings from Austria

Hello Thomas
From USA
Yes I do some times put backset into the glued joint as well. This bow will get reflexed on a form. Its in the form right now actually. Will glue grip on next.

Hi, what kind of glue do you use?
Where from the States do you come from?
By the way, welcome in our community, could you tell us a little bit more about you and your bow building experience.

Re: The Hedge is here
From Tennessee.
Been building selfbow since 1999. Lived all over the world at one time or another. Been to Austria a few times.
I hunt with with Selfbow mostly since 2009. I like to hunt with my bows. I have plenty photos harvests with Selfbows.
I use a two part paste epoxy for billets, for bamboo backings and bellies I use the same two part epoxy that Black Widow in USA bows uses.

Hi,HH,Welcome to the FC.
Now to the roots: Your Bows tend too much to bowing grip-near,the outer Limbs are a little bit too stiff, so you get too much Mass Outwards , they slow down
So ,you lose performance, even if the Wood makes it without any Break
,there is too much unused wood...
This is Critic, but none in the way of "Dissing".. You hopefully understand

So, it might be better,to let the Bow bend on the whole length and not to tend to let the Setback and the .hmmm..maybe...functional..Tiller ..uh... let the thing do....

Re: The Hedge is here
Hi, Concerning the bending (tiller) of the bow:
I think, if there is no „handschock“ then the bending is ok, if the bow shakes a lot when released then it would be better do remove some wood from the outer parts of the limbs.
Thomas

Re: The Hedge is here
I tend to keep outer third stiff on all my bows except on target bows. Lots of people get wrapped up worrying about a perfect tiller.
I am a hunter and use the bow for hunting purposes to feed my house. No hand shock in any my bows I have ever noticed.
You can hunt animals with selfbows? My friends tell me some places it is not allowed. We hunt for our winter food.

Re: The Hedge is here
Welcome to fletchers corner. I'm curious why you contacted a german board. Thats totally fine but unusual.
In Germany its not allowed to hunt with bows. I wouldnt dare, cause im a terrible shooter. And Bowbuilder. But the concept to hunt deer with bow and arrwow made by your self is interesting. Well, maybe in another lifetime.

Re: The Hedge is here
I am married to a Kaiser's Daughter Herr Klausmann.
If I were you Herr Klausmann I woulf go hunt in Hungry. That would be like me going from Tenn up to Kentucky.
Hunt everything from Pheasant to Elk with Selfbow here where ever you wish. I have harvested, with a bow out my woods many deer under where the very tree stood! There is no better feeling than when that juicy Hersch goes into your mouth and to your stomach know you took it your Bow and Arrow.
