(special note: I have mailed this to a few others, such as Marc Némethy and Neil Payne, which is part of what I mean with priority to leave open for different countries)
Update on the competition in Sweden, 30-31 May 2009
Here now the official invitation to participate as an international visitor at the first competition in mounted archery in Swede. The event will held at Ekenäs Slott in connection with the middle ages festival taking place on the weekend of the 30-31 May.
Ekenäs Slott is located between the cities of Norrköping and Linköping, about 2 hours south of Stockholm. The festival is in the top-five list of such events in Sweden in terms of number of visitors, well over 10 000 are expected over the two days, and the choice of this setting for the event is for purposes of introducing mounted archery to a wide audience right off the bat.
See link to map in post above.
Events:
Saturday:
Geatic Invitational (Götiska* öppna). This consists of three parts, two of which are identical to the Korean Single and Double shot in accordance with the rules used at EOCHA. The third will be detailed later, but involves high and low targets.
Sunday: Hungarian-style. 18 seconds, 9 or 6 runs. The lower number will be used if there are more than 30 participants, due to time-constraints.
Other events
On Sunday there will also be an archery competition, the starting fee of which will be equivalent to merely 1 €.
Fees:
Starting fee for both events: 10 €
Rental of horse: 20 €
This price is subsidized in comparison to local participants.
Dress code:
Due to this taking place during a middle-ages festival, we have been asked that participants should be dressed suitably. No need for historical accuracy, but something that does not seem too modern is asked for.
Signing up:
Between February 15 to March 15 we will open for a first show of interest to participate, in order for us to be able to determine order of priority and leave open for more spots to open up. Between April 1 and April 15 we will then confirm with applicants, and there may be a second round opening up for a few days.
Email your application to robert.nordman(at)gmail.com
Number of spots:
At this time we predict there will be minimum 10 and maximum 18 spots especially for international visitors – unless someone brings their own horse all the way, which then goes outside this limitation – based on number of available horses. This may rapidly change to a much higher number as a few more horses will be tried out in the upcoming months, but we cannot give any guarantees.
We will attempt to spread these spots primarily between participants from different countries, as opposed to first-come-first serve, with the exception of a few spots already designated for organisational/consultation- and marketing purposes.
Getting there:
The cheapest option for getting there is flying with Ryan Air to Nyköping, Skavsta Airport (Stockholm NYO), which is about 1,5 hour away.
Edit, due to a question I was given
From Skavsta to Norrköping, please refer to this map
Details of how to get from the airport to Ekenäs will be provided when asked for.
Another option is to fly directly to Norrköping via Copenhagen, or from München straight to Norrköping.
Food, place to sleep, all other necessities
Information about all these things will be provided by request.
* Geats, or Götar, is the old name for the part of Sweden which is south of the two great forests of Tiveden and Kolmården and north of Scania. See also Beowulf.
