Just shot the Howard Hill Classic in Alabama. Was second seed after the 1st round that counts for the Championship Shootdown. Took 3rd in shootdown with the Gary Davis Special 69" Osage bow.

Was a good time down there camping in the pines. Warm days cool nites. Really fun.

Heres a 60/40 lever bow profile out and getting legbone sinew backed from deer we harvested here at our home. Bow is currently drying for several months til sinew is totally dry.

Gary Davis was one of Americas very best selfbow builders. He was a friend and teacher to a lot of bow builders. I made a bow in the fashion as he did. He liked 69" Selfbows and often made them out of two billets. Well, I made a bow a couple years ago in tribute to him. As it happens Gary Davis passed away this past winter, RIP.
So, the bow is kind of special for those reasons. When I made it I had no idea he was going to pas the next year. Great guy and good man.

If you recall my post in another thread, you might see that I knew who G.Davis was and that I really enjoyed and learned some from his DVD. Especially the outtakes. Good for others to know who follow this thread though.

Gary was a great guy and one good bowyer.

Is he dead? His DVD gave me a lot!"

So basically a 69" inch Osage with a little reflex steamed into it after gluing up the billets and shaping the limbs?

Für die anderen: die angesprochene DVD heißt "Rattlestick" und ist, wem unbekannt, sehr zu empfehlen. Auch für alte Hasen eine unterhaltsame, oldschoolige Aufzeichnung.

Yes, to both. Gary Died last year after a short illness. He died at home in Michigan. He liked 68-69" but made them in various lengths. He use to buy a lot of osage that was short at a good price and just made billet bows put a grip on them and sold them.

Last sinew is on bow. Back has a nice crown to it. Has 7" of reflex now. Just have to wait until Oktober to tiller the bow.

In that time I will do some Osage bows and some hunting in Idaho for Elk and Bear.

Was a good year in the bush. Taking selfbow in for black bear is not for the weak of heart for sure. Lots of Grizz in this area as well. The osage performed well and I came out with my skin intact.

Have been working on a bunch of Osage blanks for the Tennessee Classic in May. Few Hickory's in there too. This pile of Osage is from 2019. Good looking wood and should make some very nice bows.

Hallo,
nice to hear from you again.
The Osage staves look great, very straight not twisted, I wish I had one ore two.
Nice greetings from Vienna.

Lucky to have some pretty good Osage that grows or was planted here many years ago. One of those staves is a very nice HHB Sapling.

Working on a Pyramid 68" billet Osage currently. Need to profile it today.
