Hält der da Wache oder ist das product placement der 30er oder wirklich unverzichtbar für Howard Hill selbst bei der Darstellung eines Indianers?

Had the native americans no bracers? If I remember well, I think some had for sure. Maybe that's product placement, too. It's just Hills outfit, he also used his common glove and quiver. But who knows, maybe the producer allowed him to use his equipment (so it was no effort and cost for the props)?

The glove looks somewhat strange,
but on the other hand it is very uncomfortable to shoot a bow over 40# drawweight without using it.

Ich würde sogar soweit gehen zu sagen, dass es unmöglich ist einen Bogen oberhalb von 30 Pfund ohne Fingerschutz zu ziehen.

According to the days the movie features, maybe some Indians even had some gloves - THE Indians maybe had no gloves, but one individual "Indian" in a movie can use a glove, because it's not a history movie, or educational, as we can see....

The original movie is 50 min. I cut it down to the scenes showing Howard Hill, funny enough, you get the story also in 6 min. and shooting and fighting is still plenty.

@Max2 - I can shoot a bow up to 60# bare hand - but only some shots. Hill could for sure too, but he loved his tackle and was used to it.

@max2 - das stimmt so einfach nicht!

1. einen Bogen ohne Fingerschutz zu ziehen ist bis 60# (für mich) ohne Probleme möglich, auch mit dem ungeüben Daumen. Ich möchte sogar annehmen, das jeder sein max. Zuggewicht ohne Schutz ziehen kann (so bis 80#)
2. Schießen ist etwas Anderes, so 5-10 Schüsse kann ich als ungeübt ohne Tab meine 55# Bögen schießen, dann wird es schmerzhaft.
3. Das Unterhautgewebe verdickt sich bei häufigerem "Gebrauch" soweit, das bis 70# durchaus möglich sind, regulär ohne Schutz geschossen zu werden. Schreib mal u.a. Rabe dazu an...
4. Es ist sogar so, das ohne Tab oder HAndschuh das Ablaßgefühl besser werden und der Ablaß meist besser.

Also - ausprobieren!

Kra, meine Aussage war ein Scherz in Reaktion auf Schnabelkannes Beitrag zur Unkomfortabilität.
Ich hab noch nie einen Fingerschutz in der Hand gehabt, geschweige denn benutzt. Der Mensch ist ein Gewohnheitstier und entwickelt dann schon Horn an regelmässig beanspruchten Stellen.
Deshalb amüsiert mich der Schutz im Film bei einem Profibogenschützen und Verwendung eines sicherlich für die Aufnahmen nicht besonders Zugstarken Bogens und der Darstellung eines Indianers etwas.

In the Steve Allely/Tim Hamm "Encyclopedia Of Native American Bows, Arrows And Quivers" Volume 1 a Yuchi buckskin armguard found in Tennessee and a Naskapi leather glove from Quebéc is pictured. So gloves and armguards might or might not have been commonly used but a few have been around for sure.

It's real low budget B-Western as 10 000s were made in early Hollywood. Howard Hill also wore the homemade buckskin trousers he used in "The Last Wilderness" by Ned Frost, 1935. I guess, he brought in all the costume and props himself, so the production was able to save money. But, Howard Hill had native Indian ancestry to some degree, by last will he donated his archery stuff to the native Indians.

Grundsätzlich ohne handschuh und Armschutz....auch 100pfünder. Ist in allen Videos zu sehen. Armschutz nur wenn ich fremde bögen schiess..z.b. der Schild.
