Elm hunting bow 65# 30"

After very ugly, hot and bad summer with very little productivity here we go again.
After long, long waiting I made this bow for a friend. It is elm, 67" ntn with some character. This bow was heat treated and took very low set, about 1/2" after about 150 arrows at full draw and few hours on the brace. Not bad for narrow and thick stick. It looks like a pritty straight stave but if we look closer we will se a lot of small characters, bumps and waves. Because that I made second, dark pic, to see that details. I like colour of the heartwood very much. Because small reflex spot just above the handle it was little complicated to adjust the tiller (at least for me) but final result is good.
According to old rule of my country, when customer waits too long for its order then it is fair to get it free.

The surface of the bow looks very smooth and the contrast of the wood is a perfect example for nature art. WOW!, that's all, what I can say.

A nice looking wood...

...but i think this bow is a little bit to weak in the lower handlearea. And the lower limb seems a little bit to stiff. :P

I would really appreciate if you were able to post a picture of the stave before you made it a bow. I want to learn how to find such character pieces.

Who the hell was your teacher? Did you have to sign the contract with blood?

Seriously ... I'm just floored!

Thanks for commenting my friends. :)
Skinwalker, I do only good-looking women. ;) You are welcome to visit our workshop anytime. ;)
Windmann and bowster, thank you my friends.... I will try to keep going.
Haithabu, I will try to do what you suggest. ;) Thank you my friend.
Blacky, my friend, you are right, I agree. ;)
final result is good
. Good, not very good or excellent. Under the handle it should be little stiffer but (result off struggling with reflex spot above the handle) I was not able to make knot area (lower limb) more bendible without some risk: there are two small reflex spots and before and after the knot that made me problems and knot itself is stiff. I like very much these technical talks. :D Others opinions are always much more important to me than mine.
Gornarak, it is good idea: some of the next bows I will photo from the stave and further.
