70# 30" elm longbow

Beitrag von Ishi » 17.02.2012, 22:32

This winter I had terrible score and one of the reasons is snow, other reasons are some kind a personal. Barely one bow in last month. With -13 F and snow to my belt this is one very good winter, just I like. Bad thing is that I am disturbed a little in my work. First pic shows my workshop, covered with snow. In this moment I have about dozen bows on standby, waiting for warmer day to continue working on them, some of them are for our friends. ;) Other pics are lastest bow, elm longbow. Started with 4" reflex, has some character, and heat treated in Marc's manner in that shape. 2" held reflex just after unbracing, 3" reflex after some time. It is 74" ntn, 30 x 22 mm, 70# 30". Most of the cross section is with oval belly, I thought it is safe because belly was good treated. Walnut stained, pig fat finished.
Sub zero cold didn't affect tillering and shooting this bow.

I see snow and more snow, oh, there is snow, too. And...yes it is...a bow, with a beautiful shape. I like the waves on the back. You have perform magic with your hands on this wood. I realy like your work, it comes so natural.

Thank you friends very much..I can't wait to continue bowmaking, I am little bit nervous, waiting for some better weather to work further. Especially to work two unique warbows for two special men...
This is how my cabin looks like in the summer, when I make bow or two per week. Good warm days.... :(

*YESSSS* This time a black one... very nice!

It's my favourite colour and the tiller is very good!

In television there were some news about serbia, that you had so much snow out there... Maybe you had a bit too much time for other things like making arrows and other stuff *gg* I can imagine you, looking and thinking about the wood... dreaming of the beautiful bows... :D

Thank you for translation Ravenheart! I should post smaller pics, like 640x480, right? I apology if these are too big...

Awesome bow, my friend, the reflex is just amazing. Must be very fast, I guess!

And I don't find your pictures too big, they have just about the right size so that we can see every little detail. Actually you are among those people who make the best pictures here on the presentation forum :D .
