Ash warbow 100# 32"

Beitrag von Ishi » 27.03.2012, 20:15

This is ash warbow for my friend ;) . It needs to fits some requirements for tournament where he will participate. It is 77" ntn, meets 8/5 rule, do not has flat belly, it is oval. Thickness in the handle is about 30 x 26 mm. Tiller should look slightly different according to shape of the sapling but proposition of the tournament requires compass tiller so I had to adjust it. Bow has under 1" of set until overdrawing to 33"+ (for checking safety), now has a hair over 1". On the pic I draw just to 31", my arms are too short for 32" :( This bow also has some character that is clearly visible, some bumpy back. Belly of this bow is not heat treated because this was tiny sapling and I was suspicious that heat treated belly could overpower back. Overlays are temporary and because that they are so ugly, I didn't want to make them nice just for photo session, they will be changed into selfnocks or horn nocks. This is first bow in the row of the warbows for my friend, soon will be more like this one especially for him, different wood species will be tested in this form.

That´s a very nice bow! I love the knots on the back!

I´m really amazed that ash is actually such a good wood for warbows! I expectet that such bows of ash might have much more string follow... Anyway, this minimal set is also a proof for a really good tiller!

reagards,

David

Thank you very much my friends, soon will be more like this one. ;)
Acker, you think this?
Overlays are temporary and because that they are so ugly, I didn't want to make them nice just for photo session, they will be changed into selfnocks or horn nocks.

Blacksmith, hvala brate.. ;) I think there is space for some more adjustment but it would drop poundage down, I will fix it in the next bow, hope tommorow. :)

A real beauty, my friend! I love the shape - so much character and yet: the tiller looks perfect. It will be my pleasure to shoot this one at Rhenen and hopefully achieve some good distances with it! Thank you so much for your work and effort.

Awesome bow, the tiller looks perfect and it has amazingly little set for an ash bow, especially with regards to the drawweight.

Now that I see this, I'm even more excited for mine ;D ;D !

Amazing Bow. I like the structured back. Which size was the original Stave? Was it a Sapling?

Thank you friends very much for commenting, I am glad that you like this bow...
Blacksmith, I am just 70" ntn, it makes me problems drawing long draw :( . But at 30" draw I can pull a truck :D
TomTom, this is low ring count ash, I think this one is no more than 4 or 5 years old. Often they have density of 0.8 SG even when are saplings.
Heiner, my friend, this is the begining, next one can be only better than bow before. ;) This one came out little longer because hard character but all next will be clean and lighter in physical mass.
Agroman, I am preparing something special for you...you will see! :D
Frankster, in the middle of the stave, on pic, is visible that it was full sapling, about 30 mm thick I think. Ash saplings are very strong if they are worked carefully.
This winter I had some private situation that made to delay a lot of bows that I promissed, some bad luck about everything and also about bowmaking, everything gone bad. Now, when I am in full working mode, I will keep my promises and make everything I said. I apology to all my friends that have been waiting too long, I will respond with some good bows for that. Now my working speed is 2-3 per week, again.
Best regards to all...!

Very nice bow! Your ash down there seems to be very dense. Jaro P. has such good wood, too. Seems that ash has ideal circumstences in the South-east of Europe. ;)
